W. P. Greene ALS, 1859 March 4.

The collection consists of one letter signed "W.P. Greene esquire" of Schley County, Georgia, in which Greene complains to his cousin that one of his favorite teachers at Chapel Academy is being libeled as an abolitionist by a former teacher who was fired for incompetence. Apparently, the teacher in question was rumoured to have commented that "Negroes [have] as much right to fly round the white ladies as white boys..." According to Greene, however, all the controversy stemmed from the teacher's comment that Frémont would have made a better president than Buchanan.
